TS/S STEFAN BATORY,1968-88
 - Polish Transatlantic Liner, originally built in 1952 under name of TS/S MAASDAM for the Holland America Line. She was bought back from the Dutch shipowner in 1968 as a replacement for the legendary M/S BATORY,1936-71. The vessel was renamed and refitted to become the flagship of the Polish Ocean Lines throughout 70's and 80's. She has been known as the last Polish passenger ship as well as the last regularly scheduled transatlantic liner that remained in service on the Gdynia-Montreal route till 1988...

VIDEO: TSS STEFAN BATORY - Farewell Song/ Pozegnalna Piosenka

Picture
TS/S STEFAN BATORY sailed across the Atlantic on her route from Gdynia to Montreal mainly north of Newfoundland as
it was the shorter way to go (from May till November). It's the solid-red line on the map above...

However, sometimes the route of the early May crossing was a bit different - south of Newfoundland as the north area was still covered in ice. It's the dotted-red line on the map. An interesting fact is that during those sailings the ship was passing the RM/S TITANIC sinking location in distance of approx. 50 miles. It's marked with a blue star.

ok. 50 mil miejsce zatoniecia RM/S TITANIC oznaczone niebieska gwiazdka.
